Ohio Roofing Contractor Faces $548K in Fines for Exposing Workers to Deadly Fall Hazards

JMH Roofing LLC, a Millersburg, Ohio contractor, faces severe penalties after multiple 2023 Department of Labor investigations revealed repeated safety violations, including deadly fall hazards up to 19 feet high at residential roofing sites. Despite available fall protection equipment, workers were left exposed. OSHA proposed $548,801 in fines for eight willful and two repeat violations. The operator, Jonas Hershberger, has a history of safety violations dating back to 2018. OSHA emphasized the need for fall protection in residential construction, where falls are a significant cause of fatalities. The company has 15 days to respond.
