The Heat Is On: Nevada OSHA’s Proposed Heat Illness Prevention Regulation
Nevada OSHA plans to introduce a regulation to safeguard workers from heat-related illnesses, requiring employers facing temperatures of 90°F or higher to implement written heat illness prevention plans. These plans would include provisions for water supply, rest breaks, cooling measures, employee monitoring, acclimatization assessment, hazard mitigation, training, and emergency response. Despite concerns about business impact and costs, the regulation aims to enhance workplace safety. While not passed in the recent legislative session, it might be reconsidered during a special session, and Nevada OSHA could issue citations under its general duty clause for heat-related illnesses.
