A construction company could face over $260,000 in fines after a 23-year-old was killed by a crane collapse
A 23-year-old construction worker lost his life due to a crane collapse in March. Following the incident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed fines totaling $262,977 against the Texas-based construction contractor, S&D Erectors. OSHA found 15 violations, including exceeding the crane’s rated capacity, failing to implement an accident prevention program, and neglecting regular site inspections. OSHA stated that the worker’s death could have been prevented if proper safety measures were in place. Despite OSHA’s efforts, fatal incidents in the construction sector have persisted at a steady rate. S&D Erectors has the option to comply with the citations, request an informal conference, or contest the findings within 15 days.
