- Starting December 1, the city of Boston will require construction and demolition contractors to submit site-specific safety plans and affirm their adherence to these plans.
- This requirement is a result of Boston’s implementation of a new safe construction ordinance, established following fatal construction accidents in the city.
- The ordinance mandates that construction and demolition sites seeking permits with the Inspectional Services Department (ISD) must submit safety plans, conduct pre-shift safety meetings, and appoint site safety coordinators.
- ISD now has enforcement capabilities, including issuing violations, stopping work, revoking permits, and imposing fines of up to $300 on non-compliant parties. The city is also providing webinars and free OSHA 30-hour health and safety training to inform and educate permit applicants and contractors on the new requirements.
