California OSHA Standards Board Moves Closer To Vote On Indoor Heat Illness Standard

On August 4, 2023, California began amending its regulations to include heat illness prevention in indoor workplaces, reflecting the need for worker safety. The proposal, introduced by the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board, is open for public comment until August 22, 2023, after receiving input on May 19, 2023. The proposed measures would align with existing outdoor heat illness standards and involve providing water, cool-down areas, emergency procedures, temperature assessments, and training. If approved, this regulation could be effective by summer 2024, showing the state’s dedication to workplace safety.
