Department of Labor Announces Hazard Alert, Steps Up Enforcement as Extreme Heat Endangers Workers Across Nation

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a heat hazard alert to remind employers of their responsibility to protect workers from heat illness or injury in outdoor and indoor workplaces. OSHA will intensify enforcement efforts in high-risk industries like construction and agriculture to fully implement the National Emphasis Program on heat. The new actions aim to protect workers from extreme heat and invest in community protection as high temperatures endanger millions of people. OSHA is working towards proposing a heat-specific workplace standard, but in the meantime, they are taking measures to protect workers from excessive heat, including enforcement initiatives, inspections, and education campaigns.
