Former Colorado Contractor Pleads Guilty in Employee Trench Collapse Death

The former owner of a construction firm in Colorado, Peter Dillon, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges following a trench collapse incident that resulted in the death of an employee in November 2021. The firm, A4S LLC, had not provided the required trench protections, leading to the collapse. Dillon and A4S had failed to train workers adequately and routinely assigned inexperienced and untrained employees to work in trenches. The collapse took the life of a worker and injured others. The case resulted in penalties and charges from OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and state prosecutors. As part of the agreement, Dillon will forfeit any future roles involving trenching, excavation, or workplace safety oversight.
