OSHA heat standard still not in sight
Massive heat waves have affected the US, but there is no enforceable standard for protecting construction workers from extreme heat. While OSHA’s National Emphasis Program emphasizes heat safety, there is no timeline for a final heat standard. In the absence of a standard, experts recommend acclimatization, monitoring heat index, ensuring hydration, and providing rest and shade. OSHA conducted heat inspections, but a comprehensive standard is still awaited. Contractors should prioritize worker safety and take proactive measures until a heat standard is established.
