Traumatic Brain Injury Hazards on Construction Sites
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) pose significant risks on construction sites, leading to as many as 64,000 TBI-related deaths in the US in 2020, with falls being the primary cause. Construction workers are at higher risk, with small construction companies and certain subindustries facing greater vulnerability. Preventive measures are crucial, and employers must prioritize safety precautions, provide proper training, and ensure the use of safety equipment like hard hats and safety harnesses. Collaborative efforts by NIOSH, OSHA, and CPWR promote construction safety through campaigns and guidelines for working on roofs, ladders, and scaffolds. In case of accidents, immediate medical intervention is vital, and workers’ compensation laws may offer financial relief.
